Highlights
Guided food and culture experience · Lima neighbourhood exploration · Welcome dinner
Â
Lima often surprises first time visitors. Perched on dramatic cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, the city combines centuries of history with one of the most exciting food cultures in the world. Beneath the coastal mist that frequently drifts across the shoreline, neighbourhood life unfolds through bustling markets, local cafés, family run restaurants, and a cuisine shaped by Indigenous, Spanish, African, Chinese, and Japanese influences.
After arriving in Peru's coastal capital, the afternoon is left intentionally unhurried, allowing time to settle into the hotel, rest after the journey, or take a first stroll through the surrounding neighbourhood. As evening approaches, we gather for our first shared experience together and our introduction to Peru.
Our Three Tenths journey begins with our Signature Welcome, a locally guided introduction to Lima through one of the world's most celebrated food cultures, exploring the food, culture, and everyday life that define the city.
Lima's identity has been shaped by centuries of migration, trade, and cultural exchange, creating a cuisine unlike anywhere else in South America. Accompanied by a local guide, we move between neighbourhood eateries, traditional establishments, and contemporary food spots while discovering the stories behind the flavours that have earned Peru international acclaim.
Fresh ceviche, regional ingredients, and local specialities introduce us to the country's remarkable culinary diversity, while conversations reveal the history, traditions, and daily life of modern Peru. Between stops, the city slowly unfolds around us as the Pacific breeze drifts inland and evening settles over the capital.
The experience is as much about connection as it is about food. This is the first opportunity to get to know the fellow travellers who will share the journey ahead, exchanging stories and settling into the spirit of the adventure together before continuing for a relaxed welcome dinner, marking the beginning of our journey through Peru.

Today reveals the many different faces of Lima. From grand colonial plazas and centuries old monasteries to ancient pyramids and the wildlife rich waters of the Pacific, the city offers a fascinating introduction to the history and diversity of Peru.
Our morning begins in Lima's historic centre, where cobbled streets and ornate balconies tell the story of the Spanish colonial era. Accompanied by our guide, we explore the city's UNESCO listed heart, wandering between Plaza Mayor, Santo Domingo Convent, and the remarkable San Francisco Convent. Beneath the monastery, the famous catacombs reveal another layer of Lima's past, offering a glimpse into centuries of history hidden below the city streets.
We pause at Huaca Pucllana, one of Lima's most remarkable archaeological sites. Surrounded by the modern city, this ancient adobe pyramid dates back more than 1,500 years and provides a striking contrast between Peru's ancient civilisations and contemporary life. Enjoy lunch overlooking the ruins before the next chapter of the day unfolds.
This afternoon, we head out onto the Pacific Ocean towards the Palomino Islands. Home to one of the largest sea lion colonies in Peru, these rocky islands provide an unforgettable wildlife encounter just offshore from the capital. Those who wish can enter the water alongside curious sea lions, while others may prefer to enjoy the experience from the boat as thousands of seabirds and marine animals gather around the islands.
Returning to Lima in the early evening, the remainder of the day is left free to relax, explore independently, or enjoy another taste of the city's celebrated food scene.
