Overview
Travel feels better when you know what to expect. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about our journeys, travel style, and what it means to explore with Three Tenths Travel.
Before You Book
What makes Three Tenths Travel different?
Three Tenths Travel creates small group journeys designed around culture, atmosphere, ritual, and human connection rather than rushed sightseeing.
Each itinerary is intentionally paced to allow space for meaningful experiences, local interaction, rest, and reflection. Group sizes are small, accommodations are character driven, and every journey is personally curated around a specific season, festival, or moment in the world.
Who will be leading the journey?
Every Three Tenths Travel journey is personally hosted by Karen, Founder and Tour Director.
From planning and preparation to the final farewell, you’ll travel with the same person who designed, personally experienced, and carefully refined every step of the journey.
Is This Journey Right For Me?
This journey is designed for travellers who value authenticity, culture, atmosphere, and meaningful experiences over rushed sightseeing.
You may feel at home here if you enjoy small group travel, local connection, slower moments, beautiful landscapes, thoughtful conversation, and experiencing a destination beyond its highlights. We do not design journeys around social media moments or curated photo opportunities. Our journeys unfold with flexibility, allowing space to slow down, stay longer, or detour toward unexpected moments along the way.
Many of our travellers come solo, while others arrive seeking a more intentional style of travel. Curiosity, openness, and flexibility matter far more than age.
This journey may not be the right fit for travellers seeking luxury resorts, fast paced schedules, nightlife focused travel, or highly structured group travel.
Why is the company called Three Tenths Travel?
Roughly three tenths of our planet is land. The rest is water.
Three Tenths Travel was created around the idea that the part of the world we can explore has the power to change us. Through people, culture, atmosphere, food, conversation, ritual, and shared experience, travel reminds us how much life exists beyond our own routines and perspectives.
Our name reflects a style of travel rooted in curiosity, authenticity, and meaningful human connection rather than simply moving from place to place.
How many people are on each journey?
Groups are intentionally small, with a maximum of twelve travellers and often fewer.
This allows for a more personal experience, increased opportunities for unique accommodation, greater flexibility, and the freedom to travel at a relaxed pace.
What ages are your journey designed for?
Most travellers tend to fall between their 30s and 60s, though there are no strict age requirements beyond legal adulthood.
Our journeys are best suited to open minded travellers who value culture, connection, and immersive experiences.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely. Many guests travel solo.
Small group travel creates a welcoming environment, and shared experiences often lead to meaningful friendships along the way.
Solo travellers may choose a private room upgrade or share with another traveller of the same gender where available.
How far in advance should I book?
Our journeys have limited availability due to small group sizes and accommodation constraints. We recommend booking as early as possible to secure your preferred departure and room option.
How does payment work?
Once you’ve chosen your journey, you can either pay in full at the time of booking or reserve your place with a 20% deposit. Your remaining balance is then due 90 days before departure, giving you plenty of time to plan ahead.
We’ll be in touch throughout the process with confirmations, reminders, and everything you need before your adventure begins.
What happens after I book?
Once your booking is confirmed, our Reservations Team will contact you within 24 to 48 hours with everything you need to get started.
Over the months leading up to departure, we’ll guide you through each step, including:
- Your personalised Travel Profile
- Invoice and payment reminders
- Access to your online Travel Companion
- Packing and clothing recommendations
- Weather and travel updates
- Airport and transfer information
- Hotel details and day by day itinerary
- Practical travel advice from your Tour Director
By departure day, you’ll have everything you need for a relaxed, well prepared journey.
Accommodation and Meals
What kind of accommodation can I expect?
Three Tenths Travel prioritises atmosphere, comfort, and character over luxury alone.
Accommodation is selected with the same care as every other part of the journey. Rather than simply choosing well known hotels, we look for properties that contribute to the experience and reflect the destination itself.
Depending on the journey, this may include boutique guesthouses, locally owned hotels, heritage stays, homestays, or unique properties chosen for their sense of place and connection to the surrounding community.
Wherever possible, we favour smaller and more intimate accommodation over large branded hotels. This helps create a more personal atmosphere and allows us to deliver journeys that feel thoughtful, distinctive, and exclusive.
All accommodation is selected to be clean, comfortable, safe, and well located.
Will I have my own room?
Private rooms are available on most journeys for an additional supplement.
Travellers who choose shared accommodation will be paired with another guest of the same gender where possible.
How do you pair solo travellers who choose Twin Sharing?
Many of our guests travel solo and choose our Twin Sharing option as a wonderful way to reduce the cost of their journey while sharing the experience with another traveller.
Guests selecting Twin Sharing are paired with another guest of the same sex. Where possible, we thoughtfully match room companions based on factors such as age, rooming preferences, and any information shared with us during the booking process. While we can’t guarantee a perfect match, we take great care to pair guests who we believe will be comfortable travelling together.
If we’re unable to find a suitable roommate of the same sex, we’ll provide a private room at no additional cost. While this situation is uncommon, we believe guests should never be disadvantaged because a suitable room share isn’t available.
Can I book my own extra nights before or after the journey?
Yes. Many travellers choose to extend their stay before or after the journey.
Advice on suitable areas and accommodation options can be provided after booking. Any additional accommodation arrangements remain the responsibility of the traveller unless otherwise agreed.
Why are some hotel details not listed before booking?
Accommodation selections occasionally change due to seasonal availability or local conditions.
All properties are carefully chosen to match the atmosphere, comfort, and experience promised for the journey.
Where accommodation changes are necessary, a comparable alternative will be provided.
What are Included Dining Credits?
On selected evenings and at selected hotels, rather than arranging a fixed group dinner, we’ve included a dining credit for each guest.
We’ve carefully calculated the value of this credit to ensure that, when dining at our preferred restaurant within the hotel, your dinner is 100% included, with nothing further to pay for your meal.
The credit has also been designed to provide flexibility. If you’d prefer to dine at one of the hotel’s other restaurants, you’re welcome to use your dining credit there instead. Should you choose a meal that exceeds the value of the credit, you simply pay the difference.
We believe great travel includes the freedom to enjoy exceptional places in your own way. Included Dining Credits allow you to choose where and when you dine, while knowing that a complete dinner has already been included as part of your journey.
Inclusions and Exclusions
What is included in the journey price?
Each journey includes accommodation, transport during the itinerary, selected meals, guided experiences, entrance fees listed in the itinerary, and support throughout the journey.
Exact inclusions vary by destination and are listed on each individual journey page.

Unless otherwise stated, journeys do not include:

Specific inclusions and exclusions are listed on each individual journey page.
Payments and Booking
How do payments work?
You can either pay in full at the time of booking or secure your place with a 10% deposit and pay the remaining balance later.
Payment options and deadlines are displayed during the booking process and confirmed after booking.
Full payment pricing may differ from deposit payment pricing on some departures.
How do I know my booking is confirmed?
Once your booking and payment have been received, you will receive a confirmation email outlining your journey details and next steps.
Your place is only confirmed once the deposit payment has been successfully processed.
When will I receive final journey information?
Detailed pre departure information, including accommodation details, packing guidance, arrival instructions, and important travel information, is typically sent approximately 30 days before departure.
You don’t need to wait until then if you have questions. We’re available throughout your journey planning process and are always happy to assist with travel preparations, flight guidance, or anything else you may need.
What happens if a journey does not reach minimum numbers?
Our journeys require a minimum number of six travellers to operate.
If a departure does not reach minimum numbers, travellers will be notified as early as possible and offered either:
- A full refund
or
- The option to transfer to another journey where available
Can I transfer my booking to someone else?
In some circumstances, bookings may be transferred to another traveller. Requests are assessed on a case by case basis and any additional costs imposed by suppliers may apply. Please refer to our Cancellation and Refund Policy for full details.
Pace and Travel Style
What is the pace of the journey?
The rhythm of each journey moves between energy and stillness. Cultural experiences and guided activities are balanced with quieter moments to pause, reflect, wander, and experience a destination more deeply.
While some days are more active than others, our journeys are intentionally designed to avoid rushed, fast paced touring.
How physically demanding are the journeys?
Most journeys are designed for reasonably active travellers who are comfortable walking, carrying their own luggage, and participating in full days of exploration.
Some itineraries may include uneven terrain, stairs, heat, cold weather, or longer travel days. Physical requirements will always be clearly stated on each journey page.
If you have any concerns about suitability, please contact us before booking and we’ll be happy to discuss the journey with you.
How much walking is involved?
Walking is often one of the best ways to experience a destination, and our journeys include some leisurely exploration on foot.
Activity levels vary by itinerary. As a general guide, fitness watches typically record anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 steps per day, depending on the destination and activities included.
Some journeys may include stairs, uneven terrain, or longer sightseeing days. Specific activity levels are outlined on each journey page.
Will there be free time?
Yes.
Every itinerary balances guided experiences with personal time to wander, rest, photograph, journal, or explore independently.
Free time is intentionally built into our journeys, allowing space for personal interests and unexpected discoveries.
Are the itineraries fixed?
The overall structure of each journey remains the same, but occasional adjustments may be necessary due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, festivals, or opportunities that enhance the experience.
Flexibility is part of meaningful travel.
Health and Practical Information
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Most dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
After booking, as part of your travel profile, you’ll be asked to provide detailed information about any dietary requirements, allergies, or food preferences. We use this information to plan ahead and communicate your needs to our local partners throughout the journey.
While we do our best to accommodate dietary requirements, local ingredients, cultural food practices, and destination specific limitations may mean some flexibility is occasionally required.
What if I have a medical condition?
Many travellers join our journeys with managed medical conditions. If you have any condition that may affect your participation, please discuss it with us before booking and ensure it is disclosed in your travel profile. This helps us assess suitability and prepare appropriately.
What if I have mobility concerns?
Our journeys are designed for travellers who are comfortable walking independently and navigating the realities of travel, which may include stairs, uneven surfaces, public transport, cobblestone streets, and busy urban environments.
Accessibility standards vary significantly between destinations and not all experiences can be fully adapted for limited mobility.
If you have any mobility concerns, use walking aids, or are unsure whether a journey is suitable for you, please contact us before booking. We’re happy to discuss the itinerary in detail and help you determine whether it is the right fit.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all travellers.
Your policy should include medical cover, personal belongings, journey cancellation, and emergency evacuation where appropriate.
