Colour takes over each March as Holi unfolds across northern India, a festival of energy, ritual, and release. This is not a celebration observed from a distance, but one experienced from within. Our journey begins in Delhi, where the early signs of Holi appear in markets, temples, and daily life, before moving closer to its spiritual and cultural heart in Vrindavan and Barsana, where the celebrations take on a deeper meaning.

As the festival approaches, the atmosphere builds. Traditions rooted in the stories of Krishna and Radha come to life through music, colour, and community. In Barsana, the playful chaos of Lathmar Holi unfolds in a centuries-old exchange of ritual and theatre, while in Vrindavan, the festival reaches its peak as colour fills the air and the streets transform into a shared space of celebration.

Experience Highlights

  • Explore Old Delhi through a guided street food journey
  • Witness the theatrical energy of Lathmar Holi in Barsana
  • Step into Holi celebrations in Vrindavan as colour fills the streets
  • Experience temple rituals and the spiritual traditions behind the festival
  • Unwind in Udaipur with a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola

Holi is a celebration of colour, ritual, and renewal, but also of release. Throughout the journey, moments of intensity are balanced with space to slow down and absorb what has been experienced. From the sacred energy of Vrindavan to the quieter lakes and palaces of Rajasthan, the journey moves between immersion and reflection.

It’s a celebration of colour, ritual, and release, experienced from anticipation to immersion.

Limited to just 12 travellers to keep the experience intimate.

This journey moves through the cultural and spiritual heart of northern India, following the rhythm of Holi from its earliest preparations to its most vibrant expressions. Beginning in Delhi, we step into the everyday life of the festival before travelling to Vrindavan and Barsana, where Holi is not just celebrated, but deeply lived through ritual, story, and community.

As the journey unfolds, the intensity of Holi gradually gives way to quieter landscapes, slower mornings, and moments of reflection. The movement between chaos and calm is intentional, allowing space not only to witness the festival, but to absorb its meaning.

Our itinerary is intentionally designed around the lunar calendar and local traditions, allowing us to experience Holi in its most meaningful settings. As with all journeys shaped by living traditions, the flow may gently adapt to honour cultural timing and ensure each moment remains authentic, immersive, and true to place.

First Impressions | Into the Noise and Colour

Green tuk tuk driving through the lively evening streets of Old Delhi during a guided neighbourhood walk    Street food vendor cooking traditional Indian noodles at a busy night market in Old Delhi

Highlights
Old Delhi by tuk tuk · Chandni Chowk food walk · Rooftop chai at sunset · Welcome dinner

Delhi arrives all at once. Sound, movement, spice, colour, incense, traffic, and conversation spill through the streets in every direction.

With time to drop our bags at our hotel, we step into the heart of Old Delhi, where the city reveals itself at street level. By tuk tuk, we weave through narrow lanes alive with markets, cycle rickshaws, mosques, and centuries of daily life unfolding side by side.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere begins to shift. Early signs of Holi appear throughout the old city, with powdered colours stacked high, music drifting through the streets, and shopfronts preparing for the celebrations ahead.

We move through Chandni Chowk with a local guide, stopping between hidden stalls and long-standing favourites to taste the flavours that define Delhi. Spices, smoke, sweetness, heat, and texture arrive one after another, offering a first introduction not only to the food, but to the pulse of the city itself.

As night falls, we pause above the streets for rooftop chai overlooking the lights and activity below. Below, the lights, sounds, and motion of Delhi continue late into the evening.

The evening continues with a relaxed welcome dinner, bringing the group together as the journey starts to take shape around us.

Tonight is not about understanding India all at once. It is about stepping into its rhythm for our first evening before the festival.

Visitors walking toward Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Sikh temple in New Delhi, India during the morning    Traditional Holi colour powders displayed in market stalls in India before festival celebrations

Highlights
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib · Langar experience · Old Delhi markets · Early Holi preparations

We visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib this morning, one of Delhi’s most important Sikh temples. Beneath its white domes and reflective pools, the pace shifts completely from the energy of the previous evening.

Witnessing the daily cadence of prayer, community, and service before stepping into the langar, this is where thousands of meals are prepared and shared freely each day. It is a quiet but powerful introduction to another side of India.

Continuing onward, we spend time in the city’s markets, where preparations for Holi are quietly built. Shopfronts fill with coloured pigment, flower garlands, sweets, fabrics, and festival decorations as the anticipation of the days ahead unfold and take shape.

Rather than rushing between sights, today is unfolding at a more considered timing, allowing space to absorb both the intensity and detail of Delhi. Moments emerge to pause for chai, observe daily life, and move more slowly through the afternoon.

By evening, we gather for dinner together as the city continues creating toward celebration.

Ritual and Preparation | Entering the Spirit of Holi

Hands holding bowls of bright Holi powder colours used during Holi Festival celebrations in India    Historic market street in Old Delhi decorated with Holi colours and hanging decorations

Highlights
Holi traditions • Artisan colour workshop • Cultural storytelling

Today we step more fully into the meaning behind Holi.

Rather than diving into the celebration immediately, we begin with preparation, ritual, and story. With local guidance, we explore how Holi became one of India’s most symbolic festivals, where colour represents renewal, devotion, transformation, and the triumph of light over darkness.

During a hands on workshop, natural pigments traditionally used during Holi are prepared using flowers, herbs, and spices. As colours are blended and stories unfold, we learn and understand the festival as not simply a spectacle, but as something deeply woven into daily life, mythology, and community.

Throughout the day, moments of conversation and cultural storytelling offer deeper insight into the traditions surrounding Krishna and Radha, whose stories shape much of the celebration we are moving toward.

There is still calmness today. The streets continue their ordinary beat, but signs of Holi grow stronger around us. Powders appear stacked outside market stalls, music drifts through neighbourhoods, and anticipation quietly builds across the city.

By evening, the existence of Holi is felt. The festival no longer feels distant. It is approaching.

Into the Heart of Holi | Colour, Devotion, and Arrival

Crowds celebrating Holi Festival outside a temple in Vrindavan surrounded by coloured powder smoke    Street decorated with Holi powder colours and festival garlands in Vrindavan, India

Highlights
Journey to Vrindavan • Temple celebrations • First colours of Holi

We leave Delhi behind this morning as we travel south by train, into Uttar Pradesh as the landscape gradually shifts toward Vrindavan, the spiritual heart of Holi, where the sense of place is felt more strongly.

Vrindavan is one of the spiritual hearts of Holi, a place where the stories of Krishna and Radha are not simply remembered, but actively lived through devotion, ritual, music, and celebration.

As we arrive, the energy feels immediately different. Temple bells echo through narrow streets, devotional songs drift through courtyards, and colour starts to appear more boldly across the town. Flower garlands hang overhead, powders spill from market stalls, and groups gather in anticipation of the days ahead.

We step gently into the celebrations with visits to local temples and surrounding streets, guided through the early presence as Holi slowly unfolds around us. Lunch is unhurried and local, offering time to pause, settle into the tempo of Vrindavan, and take in the shift as feelings grow and build through the town.

This is not yet the peak of the festival, but the beginning of immersion. The line between observer and participant starts to soften as the rhythm of Vrindavan takes hold.

By evening, the town hums with energy, devotion, and excitement, preparing for the intensity and joy still to come. We gather together for dinner as the energy of Vrindavan continues to build around us into the night.

Lathmar Holi | Chaos, Tradition, and Play

Festival crowd surrounded by pink Holi powder during celebrations in India    Large crowd celebrating Holi Festival inside a historic temple courtyard in India

Highlights
Barsana village · Lathmar Holi · Local festival immersion

Today we witness one of the most unique and theatrical expressions of Holi.

In Barsana, Holi takes on one of its most theatrical and centuries old forms. Music echoes through narrow lanes as crowds gather across rooftops, temple courtyards, and streets thick with colour and chaos. Tradition unfolds through playful ritual, performance, and celebration, creating an atmosphere that feels both chaotic and deeply communal.

It is loud, messy, and intensely rooted in local tradition.

We move through the celebration with our local guides, staying close to the pace of the day while maintaining a sense of structure within the intensity.

Holi powders fill the air, music builds through the streets, and momentum unfolds across the village throughout the day.

This is Holi in its most raw and expressive form.

Holi | Colour, Surrender, and Celebration

Highlights
Temple Holi celebrations · Colour play · Cultural immersion

Today is Holi.

From early morning, Vrindavan transforms. Streets fill with colour, music drifts overhead, and the boundaries between locals and visitors dissolve into shared celebration.

We enter the celebrations through Vrindavan’s temples, where devotion and colour intertwine. What begins as ritual quickly spills into the streets, expanding outward into music, laughter, movement, and colours settle across courtyards.

Here, colour is everywhere. Faces, clothing, air itself.

There is no fixed path through the day. Instead, we move with the flow of the celebration, guided and supported throughout, allowing space to experience Holi fully while remaining grounded within the group.

It is joyful, overwhelming, and completely immersive.

By afternoon, the intensity gradually softens. Colours fade, energy settles, and the town slowly exhales.

This is the heart of the journey.

From Colour to Stillness | Taj Mahal and the Pink City

Traveller walking toward the Taj Mahal through morning mist in Agra, India    Historic stepwell architecture in Rajasthan, India with geometric stone stairways

Highlights
Sunrise Taj Mahal visit • Breakfast overlooking the Taj • Chand Baori stepwell • Journey through Rajasthan • Rooftop dinner in Jaipur

Before sunrise, we leave Vrindavan behind and travel toward Agra, arriving as the first morning light arrives to settle across the Taj Mahal.

After the intensity and colour of Holi, the mood here feels entirely different. The crowds are quieter, the air cooler, and the white marble shifts softly with the changing light of the morning. Reflections ripple across the water channels as the scale and symmetry of the monument slowly reveal themselves.

This is our opportunity to move through the gardens and surrounding courtyards, where we can pause to take in not only the beauty of the Taj Mahal itself, but the stillness that surrounds it at this hour. With time to pause, we enjoy a relaxed picnic breakfast beside the river, a softer moment before continuing west into Rajasthan.

As the landscape gradually begins to change, we break the journey at Chand Baori, one of India’s most extraordinary stepwells. Hidden within the small village of Abhaneri, thousands of sandstone steps descend into geometric symmetry below the desert surface.

There is no rush here. We wander slowly through the quiet corridors and terraces surrounding the stepwell, taking in the scale, silence, and atmosphere of a place that feels both architectural and almost surreal. We pause for lunch nearby before continuing onward through rural Rajasthan.

By late afternoon, Jaipur appears in shades of terracotta and faded pink. After the stillness of the morning and the open roads of the afternoon, the city feels warm, layered, and alive with momentum once again.

As evening falls, we gather above the city for a rooftop dinner overlooking the lights and rooftops of the Pink City. Music drifts through the night air, lanterns flicker across surrounding terraces, as a new chapter of the journey quietly emerges.

Ritual and Craft | Tradition, Colour, and Detail

Historic palace courtyard with reflective water feature in Rajasthan, India    Hands creating traditional Indian block print textiles during a cultural workshop in Rajasthan

Highlights
Amber Fort • Artisan workshop • Block printing or gemstone craft • Cultural exploration

Our day unfolds gently as we make our way to Amber Fort, where sandstone walls rise above the surrounding hills outside Jaipur.

Inside the fort, mirrored halls, painted archways, and quiet courtyards reveal another layer of Rajasthan’s history, shaped by artistry as much as power.

Later, we step into Jaipur’s living craft traditions. Depending on the setting, we spend time with local artisans exploring block printing, textile work, blue pottery, or traditional gemstone techniques passed through generations.

It is less about demonstration and more about understanding the patience, skill, and intricate detail behind the work.

Lunch is relaxed and unhurried, allowing us the opportunity to slow down after the pulse and intensity of previous days.

The afternoon is left open to continue exploring Jaipur at your own timing, whether wandering local bazaars, resting at the hotel, or settling into the softer aura of the city.

As evening arrives, Jaipur glows in warm light and rooftop terraces begin to fill once again with music, conversation, and the slower pace of Rajasthan nights.

Lakes and Light | Arrival in the City of Water

Traditional green tuk tuk driving through Udaipur Old City in Rajasthan, India    Evening dinner inside a historic palace courtyard in Rajasthan, India

Highlights
Flight to Udaipur • Tuk tuk exploration with food tastings • Old City lanes

We leave Jaipur behind and board a short morning flight south into Rajasthan’s lake region, where the rhythm of the journey softens once again.

As the landscapes below shift from desert tones to winding lakes and surrounding hills, Udaipur reveals itself slowly. Whitewashed buildings gather along the water’s edge, palace walls rise above the shoreline, and the heartbeat of the city feels gentler from the moment we arrive.

Rather than rushing between monuments, the afternoon unfolds through the quieter details of daily life in Udaipur. By tuk tuk, we weave through narrow lanes, lakeside roads, hidden courtyards, local markets, food tastings, and slower corners of the Old City that are often missed on foot.

This is an occasion to pause for chai, watch the flow of the streets, and absorb the neighbourhood that defines this part of Rajasthan. After the intensity and colour of previous days, Udaipur offers something different, a calmness, reflection, and light.

By nightfall, we gather for dinner within the old city, where warm light spills into hidden courtyards, conversation drifts slowly through the evening, and the atmosphere of Udaipur gently unfolds around us.

Highlights
Slow morning on the lake • Indian spa therapy • Lake Pichola sunset boat experience • Lakeside dinner

Our day arrives slowly beside the water, with time to rest, wander, and absorb the quieter side of Udaipur.

After several days of colour, activity, celebration, and long roads through Rajasthan, there is no rush today. Within the calmness of the palace surroundings, each guest is invited to experience a traditional Indian spa therapy inspired by restorative rituals, aromatic oils, and the slower movement of this final chapter of the journey.

The afternoon is left open to move at leisure, whether enjoying a long lunch, wandering the nearby lanes and courtyards of the old city, or simply pausing beside the lake as the final days of the journey begin to settle around us.

As evening approaches, we return to the water for a sunset boat experience across Lake Pichola. The light gently fades across the hills surrounding Udaipur, palace walls glow above the shoreline, and reflections stretch across the lake as dusk slowly arrives.

On our final evening together, we gather for a farewell dinner overlooking the water. Stories are shared, friendships celebrated, and the emotion of the past days reflected on in our final moments beneath the lights of the city.

It is not only an ending, but a quieter moment to recognise how much the journey has held.

Holi is intentionally colourful, and some staining to clothing, shoes, or bags is possible during the festival days.

We recommend bringing lightweight clothing that you are comfortable fully embracing the experience in. Phones, cameras, and valuables should ideally be protected with simple covers or waterproof pouches during major celebrations.

The coloured powders used throughout the journey are typically natural festival powders commonly used during Holi celebrations.

Holi can feel energetic, crowded, and highly immersive, particularly in places such as Vrindavan and Barsana.

Throughout the journey, experiences are carefully planned with trusted local support, structured guidance, and thoughtful pacing to help guests feel comfortable within the intensity of the celebrations.

Our role is not only to guide you through the festival itself, but also to create balance, support, and space throughout the experience.

Absolutely. In many ways, this journey has been intentionally designed for travellers experiencing India for the first time. The itinerary balances the energy and intensity that make India so unforgettable with quieter moments, slower pacing, comfortable accommodation, and thoughtful guidance throughout the experience.

From the movement of Old Delhi to the colour and emotion of Holi, there will certainly be moments that feel vivid, immersive, and outside everyday comfort zones, but that is also part of what makes India such a powerful place to experience.

Throughout the journey, guests are supported by a dedicated tour leader and trusted local guides who help navigate everything from logistics and cultural context to the smaller practical details along the way. The experience is designed to feel immersive without ever feeling unsupported.

No. While Holi has deep roots in Hindu tradition and spirituality, the experience of the festival extends far beyond religion alone. Throughout the journey, we explore the stories, rituals, music, symbolism, and community traditions connected to Holi in a respectful and accessible way.

Many moments during the trip take place in temples and culturally significant spaces, but no religious participation is expected. The journey is designed for culturally curious travellers who want to experience India thoughtfully, whether spiritual, religious, or simply interested in the traditions and atmosphere surrounding the festival.

Holi is joyful, loud, emotional, chaotic, playful, spiritual, and unlike almost anything else in the world. Streets fill with music, dancing, colour, celebration, laughter, and movement as communities gather throughout temples, courtyards, and neighbourhoods.

At times the experience can feel intense and overwhelming in the best possible way, particularly during the major celebration days.

The journey is intentionally designed to balance these more intense moments with quieter periods of rest, reflection, and slower cultural experiences.

Not at all. Some travellers fully immerse themselves in every celebration, while others prefer quieter observation at certain moments. There is no pressure to participate beyond your own comfort level. The experience is designed to allow space for both active celebration and simply witnessing the atmosphere unfolding around you.

Bottled or filtered drinking water is readily available throughout the journey, including during transfers, hotel stays, and daily experiences.

Your tour leader will also provide practical local guidance throughout the trip, allowing guests to settle comfortably into the experience.

Not at all. Indian cuisine is incredibly diverse, and many dishes throughout the journey are mild, fragrant, and balanced rather than intensely spicy. The food experiences included throughout the itinerary are designed to introduce guests to a variety of traditional dishes and regional cooking styles at a comfortable pace.

There is always flexibility throughout the journey, and guests are encouraged to explore new flavours in a way that suits their own comfort level. Many restaurants and dining experiences can also accommodate milder preferences when requested.
