Cherry blossom season arrives quietly, then all at once. Streets soften under pale pink canopies, temples sit framed in bloom, and the rhythm of daily life shifts to meet the moment. This is not sightseeing. It’s an immersion into a season that is fleeting, delicate, and deeply felt.

Experience Highlights

  • Walk beneath cherry blossoms at their peak in Kyoto
  • Share a traditional hanami picnic under the trees
  • Journey to Yoshino, Japan’s most iconic sakura mountain
  • Relax in a Japanese onsen overlooking nature
  • Hands-on sushi experience and guided sake tasting

This journey moves with the season, beginning in Kyoto where blossom-lined streets and lantern-lit evenings ease you into Japan’s cultural heart. From temple paths to riverside walks, each day builds gently, blending structure with space to take it in properly.

We travel beyond the city into landscapes shaped by the season. In Arashiyama, bamboo rises around us before the valley opens outward. In Yoshino, layers of cherry blossom stretch across the mountainside, offering a sense of scale that’s both grounding and unforgettable.

The pace softens further at Kawaguchiko, where Mount Fuji sits quietly in the background and time slows by the water. Onsen bathing, open views, and unhurried afternoons create space to settle into the experience fully.

Tokyo brings contrast. The energy returns, sharper and more immediate, but balanced with moments of stillness woven through it. A final evening of shared food, sake, and conversation brings the journey to a natural close.

This is a journey shaped by seasonality, movement, and presence. Not a checklist, but a feeling that unfolds day by day.

Limited to just 10 travellers to keep the experience intimate.

This journey unfolds with the rhythm of cherry blossom season, moving through Japan as it comes into bloom. Days are shaped by the season itself, from the cultural depth of Kyoto to the open landscapes of Yoshino and Kawaguchiko, and into the layered energy of Tokyo.

As the journey progresses, moments of movement are balanced with time to slow down and take it in. Early mornings in stillness, afternoons spent beneath the blossoms, and evenings that shift between quiet reflection and shared experience create a natural flow between activity and pause.

Our route follows the progression of the season, allowing us to experience sakura at its peak across different regions. As with all seasonal journeys, timing may shift slightly to honour local conditions and ensure each moment is experienced at its best.

Itineraries

Day 01 | Kyoto

Date : 01/04/2027

Arrival Energy | Flavours of the Season

Traditional Japanese food alley in Kyoto with chefs preparing seasonal dishes beneath lanterns  Cherry blossoms illuminated above a canal in Kyoto during spring evening celebrations

Highlights
Seasonal sakura food exploration · Nishiki Market tasting · Gion & Pontocho evening · Welcome dinner

April in Kyoto hits immediately. Blossom is everywhere, overhead, along the streets, caught in the air, and the city is already in full swing. There’s no easing in. We arrive and step straight into it.

We meet at midday and head straight out for a seasonal food exploration, using Kyoto itself as our route. This is not a single stop, but a moving experience through the city, built around what cherry blossom season brings to life. We try sakura mochi, soft and lightly salted against sweet red bean, hanami dango in pastel colours, sakura-infused drinks, and playful seasonal creations that appear everywhere at this time of year. It’s varied, unexpected, and genuinely fun, each stop adding something different.

The experience builds as we move into Nishiki Market, where everything sharpens. This narrow, energetic market is Kyoto’s food heart, packed with over a hundred stalls, each one pulling us in with something new. Grilled skewers, fresh seafood, pickles, sweets, it’s all here, and we move through it the way locals do, eating as we go, stopping often, following whatever looks good in the moment.

The day doesn’t break, it shifts. We move through the city as it changes pace, dipping onto local transport when it suits us, then back out into new neighbourhoods. By early evening, we arrive into Gion and Pontocho Alley, where lanterns begin to glow and the atmosphere turns more intimate. We sit down together for our first dinner, relaxed, social, and still riding the energy of everything we’ve tasted and seen.

Kyoto stays alive during sakura. We step back out into it, following the illuminated blossoms along the river, the city shifting again under soft light. It’s vibrant, festive, and easy to get caught up in, and we take our time with it before eventually making our way back.

Under Sakura | Living the Season

People enjoying a hanami picnic beneath cherry blossom trees in Kyoto, Japan  Cherry blossoms illuminated at night during yozakura season in Kyoto

Highlights
Traditional tea ceremony · Hanami picnic · Evening yozakura

Kyoto settles into the season quickly. The canal moves quietly beneath a canopy of blossom, petals drifting across the water as the city carries on around it. The pace shifts naturally here, softer, more grounded, inviting us to slow down and take it in properly.

We begin with a traditional tea ceremony, where small gestures, seasonal sweets, and quiet attention shape the pace of the morning. Beneath the blossoms, the experience feels calm, grounded, and intentionally simple, offering a different rhythm to the energy of the city outside.

From there, we step straight into hanami. A picnic set beneath the blossoms, simple, seasonal, and shared. Bento boxes, small bites, something to drink, all enjoyed outdoors as the season unfolds around us.

The afternoon opens up from here. Time to wander at your own pace, follow quieter streets, explore hidden corners, or simply stay exactly where you are. Dinner this evening is left open, giving space to choose something that feels right in the moment, whether it’s a small local spot or something discovered along the way.

As the light fades, we regroup for an evening of yozakura. Drinks in hand, we step back into the city together, this time under soft illumination. A guided walk reveals the blossoms in a completely different way, reflections stretching across the water, the atmosphere quieter but still alive, offering a new perspective on a day that continues to unfold.

Stillness in Motion | Kyoto at Dawn

Torii gates lining the pathways of Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, Japan  Traditional shrine gates overlooking Kyoto during sunrise in Japan

Highlights
Early morning visit to Fushimi Inari Taisha · Picnic-style breakfast · Philosopher’s Path

Kyoto feels entirely different before the city wakes. The streets are quiet, the air is cool, and the usual rhythm hasn’t yet begun. It’s in this stillness that we arrive at Fushimi Inari, stepping into a place that carries deep cultural and spiritual significance. Dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of rice, prosperity, and business, the shrine is known for its thousands of vermillion torii gates, each one donated over generations, forming a continuous path that winds into the forested hillside.

We move through it early, before the crowds arrive, the repetition of the gates and the quiet of the morning setting the rhythm.

Afterwards, we step away from the shrine and settle into a simple picnic-style breakfast, set in a quiet outdoor spot. Coffee, fresh pastries, something light to start the day, shared together in a way that keeps the morning feeling intentional but easy.

From here, the morning continues gently. Blossom still carries the day, and we follow it through quieter stretches of the Philosopher’s Path, where the canal runs beneath soft pink canopies and the city moves at a slower pace. It’s an easy continuation, keeping us connected to the season without needing to force it.

The rest of the day opens up from here. There’s space to explore further, revisit places that caught your attention, or simply slow things down completely. Kyoto lends itself to wandering, and today gives you the time to do exactly that.

By evening, the city begins to shift again. For those who want to continue, optional temple illuminations offer one last way to experience the blossoms, lit softly against the night, a quieter, more atmospheric close to a day that began in stillness.

Inclusions

Day 04 | Kyoto

Into the Landscape | Bamboo and Valley

Visitors walking through the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, Japan  Sagano Romantic Train travelling beneath cherry blossom trees in Japan

Highlights
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove · Sagano Romantic Train · Scenic lunch

The city begins to loosen its grip as we move west, where Kyoto opens into something greener, quieter, and more expansive. In Arashiyama, the pace shifts almost immediately. The bamboo grove rises around us in tall, vivid lines, light filtering through in a way that feels both calm and quietly striking. It’s a simple walk, but one that stays with you.

From here, the landscape opens further. The Sagano Romantic Train follows the Hozugawa River as it cuts through the valley, revealing a different side of Kyoto altogether. The city falls away, replaced by forested hillsides, water moving steadily below, and early hints of spring colour beginning to show. It’s an easy, scenic journey that gives the day space to breathe.

A well-timed lunch in the valley, something relaxed and well placed, allowing time to sit, take it in, and enjoy the shift in pace before returning.

By afternoon, we make our way back into Kyoto, the city familiar again but now carrying a different feel after the morning’s openness. The evening is left entirely free, the chance to wander, revisit favourite spots, or settle into dinner wherever the mood takes you.

Playful Moments | Under the Blossoms

Deer walking beneath cherry blossom trees in Nara Park, Japan  Travellers wearing traditional kimono during cherry blossom season in Kyoto

Highlights
Nara Park visit · Kimono experience · Candid photo shoot · Todai-ji Temple

Stepping out of Kyoto, a shorter train journey brings us into Nara Park, where the atmosphere shifts almost immediately. Wide open lawns replace temple lanes, cherry trees spread overhead, and deer wander freely through the morning crowds with complete confidence.

Here, the season feels lighter. Locals gather beneath the blossoms for picnics, school groups move through the park in conversation and laughter, and the energy of the day opens naturally around us.

As part of the experience, we dress in traditional kimono before spending time beneath the sakura with a candid photography session designed to capture the quieter in between moments of the journey. Nothing is heavily staged. The focus is on movement, interaction, and the atmosphere unfolding naturally throughout the day.

There is time to wander slowly through the park, pause for snacks beneath the trees, or simply watch daily life move through the season around us.

By late morning, we continue onward to Todai ji Temple, where the scale of the Great Buddha Hall creates a completely different atmosphere once again. Beneath the enormous wooden structure, the pace shifts back toward stillness before returning gently to Kyoto later in the afternoon.

Inclusions
Breakfast · Return train to Nara · Kimono experience · Photography session · Lunch · Entry to Todai-ji · Accommodation in Kyoto

Day 06 | Yoshino

Date : 06/04/2027

The Moment It Opens | Into the Blossoms

Cherry blossom covered mountains surrounding Mount Yoshino in Japan  Walking path lined with cherry blossoms in Yoshino, Japan

Highlights
Journey to Yoshino · Ropeway ascent · Arrival drinks & seasonal bento · Ryokan stay · Kaiseki dinner

We leave Kyoto behind and head south, the city gradually giving way to something more open, more expansive. The shift happens quickly, the pace changes, the landscape begins to rise, and the sense of anticipation builds.

Yoshino doesn’t reveal itself all at once. We arrive and take the ropeway up, a short ascent that offers a first glimpse before the mountain opens properly. And then it does. Layers of cherry blossom stretch across the mountainside, folding into one another, far wider and deeper than expected. It’s not a single viewpoint, it’s the entire landscape, and it lands all at once.

We gather for cold, local refreshments paired with seasonal bento and small sakura sweets. Time is left open to take in the scale of the landscape and settle into the moment at your own pace.

By late afternoon, we make our way to our ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn that is as much part of the experience as the destination itself. Shoes off at the door, tatami mats underfoot, sliding paper screens, and yukata laid out for the evening, everything shifts into a quieter, more intentional rhythm.

Dinner is kaiseki, a multi-course experience built around seasonality and presentation. Each dish arrives with care, small, precise, and beautifully balanced, reflecting the same attention to detail that defines the day.

As night settles over Yoshino, the mountain quietens. The day doesn’t need anything more.

Inclusions
Breakfast · Transport to Yoshino · Ropeway · Arrival drinks & seasonal bento · Kaiseki dinner · Ryokan stay in Yoshino

Day 07 | Kawaguchiko

Date : 07/04/2027

Open Space | Into the Landscape

Mount Fuji framed by cherry blossoms overlooking Lake Kawaguchiko in Japan  Traditional Japanese onsen overlooking Mount Fuji during spring

Highlights
Journey from Yoshino · Fuji Five Lakes region · Ropeway views · Onsen experience

The landscape shifts again as we leave Yoshino behind, trading layered mountains of blossom for something wider, more open. The journey carries us towards the Fuji Five Lakes region, where the pace softens and the horizon begins to stretch.

By the time we arrive in Kawaguchiko, the setting has changed completely. The lake sits still beneath it all, and Mount Fuji holds the backdrop, sometimes clear, sometimes partially hidden, always present. It’s a quieter kind of arrival, less immediate, more gradual.

In the afternoon, we take the Mt Fuji Panoramic Ropeway for a higher perspective across the lake and surrounding landscape. From above, the scale becomes clearer, water, town, and mountain sitting together in a way that feels distinctly different from anything we’ve experienced so far.

From here, the pace drops naturally. The onsen becomes part of the experience, a traditional Japanese hot spring, fed by mineral-rich waters. There’s time to settle into it properly, to move between indoor and open-air baths, to step out into the cool air and return again. It’s simple, restorative, and deeply part of everyday life here.

Dinner is served in-house this evening, a relaxed close to a day that opens everything out.

Slow Morning | By the Water

Coffee overlooking Lake Kawaguchiko with Mount Fuji in the background during spring  Boat crossing Lake Kawaguchiko beneath Mount Fuji during spring in Japan

Highlights
Onsen morning • Lake Kawaguchiko cruise • Forest glamping stay

Morning arrives quietly in Kawaguchiko. Light filters slowly through the trees, Mount Fuji sits beyond the lake in the distance, and the pace of the day remains intentionally unhurried.

There is time to ease into the morning slowly, whether soaking once more in the onsen, sitting beside the water with coffee, or simply enjoying the stillness of the forest surroundings before the day begins.

By late morning, we head onto Lake Kawaguchiko for a short cruise across the water. The perspective is simple but striking, with Fuji rising quietly beyond the shoreline as the lake reflects the changing spring light.

The afternoon is left completely open. Some may choose to return early and spend time within the forest retreat itself, where private decks, soft interiors, firelight, and mountain air create space to slow down fully after the movement of previous days. Others may wander nearby cafés, lakeside paths, or quieter corners of the town at their own pace.

As evening settles through the trees, dinner is shared slowly beneath the forest canopy, with the final night in Kawaguchiko unfolding in the calm rhythm that defines this part of the journey.

City Energy | Into the Night

Rain covered streets and neon city lights in Tokyo at night  Cherry blossoms illuminated above a canal in Tokyo during spring

Highlights
Journey to Tokyo · City introduction · Skyline drinks · Evening sumo experience

The pace shifts again as we leave Kawaguchiko behind and return to the city. Tokyo arrives quickly, denser, faster, and unmistakably different. After days of open space and stillness, the contrast is immediate.

We settle in and head straight out for a first introduction to the city, moving through neighbourhoods where everything feels heightened, colour, movement, sound, all layered together.

As evening approaches, we take it up a level. Drinks with a skyline view offer a first real pause, the city stretching out in every direction, lights beginning to come on, the scale of it all settling in.

From here, we move into a sumo experience, something deeply rooted in Japanese culture experienced up close It’s lively, immersive, and offers a completely different perspective on tradition, one that contrasts sharply with everything we’ve experienced so far.

Tokyo doesn’t slow down, and neither does the night. The energy carries us through, the city fully alive around us, closing the day on a high note.

Final Moments | A City to Close

Fresh sushi being prepared at a traditional restaurant in Tokyo, Japan  Travellers enjoying a sake tasting and shared dinner experience in Tokyo

Highlights
Sushi experience · Sake tasting · Farewell dinner

Tokyo reveals a different side of itself on the final full day of the journey. After days of movement between temples, mountains, lakes, and blossom lined streets, the city now feels more familiar, its rhythms easier to move within.

The morning is intentionally open. Some may choose to revisit favourite neighbourhoods, search out small cafés and bookstores, or simply spend time wandering through the quieter corners of the city one final time.

Later, we come together for a hands on sushi experience, learning the balance, detail, and precision behind one of Japan’s most recognised culinary traditions. The setting remains relaxed and social, shaped as much by conversation and shared moments as the food itself.

From here, the evening continues into a guided sake tasting, exploring regional varieties and seasonal flavours that reflect the changing landscapes we’ve moved through during the journey.

Our final dinner unfolds slowly beneath the lights of the city, with stories revisited, photographs exchanged, and the rhythm of Tokyo continuing around us late into the night.

We gather one final time for breakfast before departures begin, the atmosphere slower now as luggage waits beside tables, coffees stretch a little longer, and conversations drift between reflection and future plans.

Outside, the city continues moving at its usual pace. Trains pass overhead, cafés begin to fill, and another morning unfolds across Tokyo while the final moments of the journey settle quietly around us.
