In the Sacred Valley, remarkable Inca engineering, living traditions and the timeless streets of Ollantaytambo prepare us for an unforgettable day exploring Machu Picchu. From there, we continue to Cusco, where Inti Raymi unfolds through ceremony, procession and spectacular performances that celebrate the heart of the Inca Empire.
The journey continues with the freedom to experience the Andes in your own way before we leave the mountains behind and fly into the Peruvian Amazon.

Along the way
Lima's UNESCO listed historic center reveals centuries of Spanish colonial history through grand plazas, ornate balconies and remarkable architecture. Accompanied by our guide, we explore Plaza Mayor, Santo Domingo Convent and the impressive San Francisco Convent before descending into its famous catacombs, where another chapter of the city's story lies hidden beneath the streets. Lunch overlooking the archaeological site of Huaca Pucllana completes our morning.
Home to one of Peru's largest sea lion colonies, the Palomino Islands offer an unforgettable opportunity to observe these playful animals in their natural habitat. Those who wish can enter the water alongside curious sea lions, while others can enjoy the experience from the boat.

Along the way
Accompanied by a local guide, we explore Ollantaytambo, one of Peru's best preserved living Inca towns. Cobbled streets, centuries old irrigation channels and remarkable Inca engineering reveal a community where daily life continues much as it has for generations. Gathering for a relaxed lunch, it's our first opportunity to savour the flavours of the Sacred Valley while settling into life in the Andes.
A hands on Bean to Bar chocolate workshop introduces another side of Peru's remarkable heritage. From roasting cacao beans to grinding, tasting and crafting our own chocolates, we experience every step of the journey while discovering why Peruvian cacao is celebrated by chocolatiers around the world.
There's time to enjoy Ollantaytambo at your own pace before we gather once again for dinner, sharing another taste of the Sacred Valley as we look ahead to tomorrow's discoveries.

We've chosen to begin our Andean journey in the Sacred Valley, allowing both body and mind to adjust naturally to the altitude before ascending to Machu Picchu. At 2,792 metres (9,160 feet) above sea level, its gentler elevation provides a more comfortable introduction to life in the Andes while setting the stage for the remarkable experiences still to come.

Along the way
Moray reveals the remarkable ingenuity of the Incas. Vast circular terraces descend into the earth, creating a series of natural microclimates believed to have been used to experiment with crops that would one day feed an empire stretching thousands of kilometres. We pause for lunch nearby before continuing through the Sacred Valley.
Those wishing to experience more of the Sacred Valley on foot can join an optional guided hike to Maras, following scenic countryside trails through the Andean landscape. Guests preferring a more relaxed pace travel comfortably by vehicle, with both groups meeting again at the remarkable Maras Salt Mines.
Thousands of brilliant white salt pools cascade down the mountainside, fed by a natural spring that has flowed since pre Inca times. Still harvested by local families today, the terraces preserve a tradition that has endured for generations while creating one of Peru's most recognisable landscapes.
There's time to enjoy Ollantaytambo at your own pace before we gather once again for dinner, sharing another taste of the region as we look ahead to tomorrow's journey to Machu Picchu.

One of the world's great railway journeys carries us through the heart of the Sacred Valley, following the winding Urubamba River as towering Andean peaks close in around us. Panoramic windows reveal changing landscapes throughout the journey, making the train as memorable as the destination itself.
We'll explore the remarkable citadel of Machu Picchu, discovering the temples, terraces and ceremonial spaces that have captivated travellers for generations. As one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, its setting among cloud forest covered mountains is every bit as extraordinary as the engineering that has allowed it to endure for centuries.
There's time to experience Machu Picchu in the way that suits you best. Continue exploring the main archaeological site, join the hike to the Sun Gate for spectacular views across the valley, or simply pause to absorb the atmosphere of one of the world's most celebrated landmarks.
The return journey to Ollantaytambo offers one final opportunity to admire the dramatic landscapes of the Sacred Valley before we go for dinner, sharing the experiences of a day few places on Earth can rival.

The winter solstice marks the beginning of Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun, the most important celebration of the Inca calendar. Our day follows the festival from its ceremonial beginnings at Qorikancha, once the Inca Empire's most sacred temple, before continuing to Plaza de Armas as music, dancers and richly dressed performers fill the historic streets of Cusco.
Following lunch, we make our way to Sacsayhuamán, where reserved Orange Zone VIP seating provides outstanding views of the festival's spectacular finale. More than three hundred performers recreate ancient ceremonies through traditional music, colourful costumes and dramatic performances against the backdrop of one of the Inca Empire's most remarkable archaeological sites.
As the celebrations draw to a close, there's time to enjoy Cusco's lively atmosphere before we reunite for dinner, bringing a memorable day to a fitting close.

A leisurely breakfast allows everyone to ease into the day before we leave the Andes behind and fly east towards the Peruvian Amazon. On arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our journey continues by boat as the rainforest gradually closes in around us, offering our first glimpse of one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
Nestled deep within the rainforest, our eco lodge becomes home for the next two nights, surrounded by towering trees and abundant wildlife. After settling in, we gather for lunch before the afternoon is yours to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings or simply listen as the sounds of the forest begin to replace the rhythm of the city.
As darkness falls, we step into a completely different world. Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, our rainforest night walk reveals the Amazon after sunset, when frogs, insects, nocturnal birds and countless other creatures emerge beneath the forest canopy. Every walk is different, making this a fascinating introduction to the remarkable wildlife that calls the rainforest home.

Over the past eleven days, Peru has revealed itself through vibrant cities, ancient civilisations, soaring Andean landscapes and the extraordinary wildlife of the Amazon. When the time comes, we make our way back to Puerto Maldonado for our return flight to Lima. Arrival and departure days
- Airport transfers are included for all guests arriving on Day 1 and departing on the final day of the journey
- Arrival day is intentionally designed with flexibility in mind, allowing time to settle into the hotel, explore the surrounding neighbourhood, or simply pause before the journey begins
- Our first shared experience takes place in the late afternoon on Day 1, allowing guests arriving earlier in the day time to comfortably transfer from the airport and settle in before meeting the group
- Hotel check in is typically available from 3:00pm onwards. Guests arriving earlier may store luggage with the hotel prior to check in
- Your tour host will be waiting to welcome you at the hotel on arrival day, offering assistance with check in and luggage storage where needed, along with recommendations for exploring the surrounding neighbourhood before the journey begins
- On departure day, no activities are planned beyond breakfast, allowing flexibility for onward travel arrangements
- We recommend booking onward departure flights from Lima from 4:00pm onwards on the final day, allowing comfortable connection times following your domestic flight from Puerto Maldonado
Winter solstice and Inti Raymi

- Our journey is carefully timed so we experience the complete celebration, from the opening ceremonies at Qorikancha and Plaza de Armas to the spectacular finale at Sacsayhuamán

- The Sacred Valley and Cusco experience cool, dry days with daytime temperatures of approximately 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F) and chilly mornings and evenings that may fall to 2°C to 7°C (36°F to 45°F)
- Machu Picchu enjoys comfortable daytime temperatures of around 17°C to 22°C (63°F to 72°F)
- Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon Rainforest remain warm and humid throughout the year, with daytime temperatures generally between 26°C and 31°C (79°F to 88°F)
- Layers are recommended, particularly in the Andes where temperatures vary significantly between morning, afternoon and evening

Practical considerations
- Several days are spent above 2,700 meters (8,860 feet), so a relaxed pace, staying hydrated and allowing time to acclimatise are recommended

- Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as many historic streets, archaeological sites and rainforest trails have uneven surfaces
- June mornings and evenings in the Andes can be cool, while the Amazon remains warm and humid throughout the day
- Sun protection is important, particularly at higher elevations where ultraviolet levels are significantly stronger
- A lightweight waterproof jacket is recommended for the Amazon, where occasional tropical showers remain possible even during the drier season

Rather than travelling straight to Cusco, we begin in the lower lying Sacred Valley, allowing your body time to adjust before visiting Machu Picchu and attending Inti Raymi. Most travellers adapt comfortably by following our relaxed pace, staying hydrated and avoiding overexertion during the first few days.
Not at all. Every guest enjoys a guided exploration of Machu Picchu, after which you're free to experience the site in the way that suits you best. Those looking for a challenge can choose one of the optional hikes, while others may prefer to continue exploring the citadel, take in the spectacular views or simply enjoy spending more time at one of the world's most remarkable archaeological sites.
This journey includes a mixture of walking, sightseeing and optional adventure experiences. While some excursions involve uneven terrain, there are always opportunities to tailor parts of the itinerary to your interests and comfort level. Day 8 in the Andes and Day 10 in the Amazon both offer a choice of experiences, allowing you to enjoy the journey at your own pace.

Depending on the season and natural conditions, you may encounter colourful parrots and macaws, monkeys, giant river otters, caiman, turtles, sloths and an extraordinary variety of birds, butterflies and insects. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but our carefully chosen location provides excellent opportunities to experience one of the world's most biodiverse ecosystems.
Peru is often associated with the Andes and Machu Picchu, but more than half of the country lies within the Amazon Basin.
