In the far north of Norway, winter is not something to escape, but something to step into.
December brings the long polar night, when the sun barely rises and snow-covered landscapes glow beneath Arctic skies. It is during these quiet winter months that the Northern Lights begin their mysterious dance across the horizon.
This is not simply a Northern Lights trip. It is an invitation into the stillness and wonder of the Arctic winter.
Experience Highlights
• Witness the Northern Lights beneath Arctic skies
• Stay one magical night in the Sorrisniva Ice Hotel
• Experience a traditional Arctic sauna and ice plunge
• Meet huskies and learn about life with sled dogs in the north
• Travel across the snowy landscapes of Alta by snowmobile
Our journey blends the warmth of Oslo’s Nordic culture with the wild beauty of Norway’s Arctic north, travelling beyond the Arctic Circle to Tromsø and Alta.
Along the way we step into the traditions that shape life in the north. Cross-country skiing through quiet winter forests, gathering beside firelight beneath the polar night, and sharing stories of Sámi culture and northern life.
One night is spent inside the remarkable Sorrisniva Ice Hotel, a dreamlike world sculpted entirely from snow and ice beneath the Arctic sky.
And when the aurora appears above fjords, forests, or frozen valleys, it reminds us why travellers have journeyed north for centuries to witness this quiet miracle of light.
Limited to just 12 travellers to keep the experience intimate.
This journey unfolds in the Arctic north, where winter is experienced through stillness, light, and landscape. Travelling beyond the Arctic Circle, we move between Oslo, Tromsø, and Alta, where each day is shaped by the natural rhythm of the polar night.
Experiences balance quiet exploration with moments of wonder, from snow-covered forests and Arctic traditions to evenings spent beneath vast open skies. The pace allows space to settle into the environment, where the absence of daylight creates a different sense of time and presence.
Our itinerary is designed to maximise opportunities to witness the Northern Lights, while embracing the full Arctic experience. As with all natural phenomena, sightings are never guaranteed, but each day is curated to ensure the journey remains meaningful regardless of conditions.
Itineraries
Day 1 | Oslo
Date : 08/12/2026
The First Fire | Into Winter

Highlights
Welcome drinks · Forest and frozen lake experience · Traditional Norwegian bonfire feast · Ice fishing (weather permitting) · Welcome dinner
Â
Arrival in Oslo is immediate and unmistakable. The air is crisp, the light fades early, and the rhythm of the city begins to shift with the season.
After time to settle in, we leave the city behind and travel into the surrounding forest, where a frozen lake and quiet woodland set the scene for our first shared experience. Here, in the stillness of the Norwegian winter, a fire is already waiting.
We gather around the flames as they crackle against the cold air, warming our hands as the first stories begin to unfold. This is our introduction not just to the landscape, but to the way life is lived here, outdoors, together, and closely tied to nature.
A traditional feast is prepared over the fire and shared in a relaxed, unhurried way. We taste cured meats, Norwegian cheeses, and local preserves laid out simply, alongside crisp flatbreads and warm lompe. Over the flames, moose and reindeer are cooked slowly, filling the air with rich, smoky aromas.
Drinks are poured and passed around, hot lingonberry, coffee, and thick hot chocolate, small comforts that feel essential in the cold.
As the afternoon unfolds, there is time to step out onto the frozen lake or wander quietly through the surrounding forest. For those who wish, we can try our hand at traditional ice fishing, a simple and patient ritual that reflects the slower rhythm of life in winter. Others may choose to simply take in the stillness of the landscape.
There is no rush, just the quiet rhythm of the forest. This is not an activity, it is the moment the journey begins.
We return to the city in the late afternoon, with time to relax and freshen up before we gather again for dinner.

Day 2 | Oslo

Nordic Beginnings | Tracks Through the Forest

Highlights
Cross country ski experience · Guided instruction · Countryside lunch
Â
This morning, we head just outside the city and into the forest, where Oslo’s winter really comes to life.
Cross-country skiing is part of everyday life here, and today we give it a go for ourselves.
All equipment is provided and no previous experience is needed. It takes a moment to find our rhythm, and that’s part of the experience. A bit of a shuffle, a bit of a glide, and occasionally a gentle fall into the snow.
As we move along the trails, the group begins to settle into it. Confidence builds, movements smooth out, and what starts as unfamiliar quickly becomes enjoyable. The pace is relaxed, with time to move comfortably and take in the surroundings.
It’s active, light-hearted, and surprisingly addictive once it clicks.
After the trails, we head to a nearby local restaurant for lunch. Simple, familiar dishes are served, warm and satisfying after the morning outdoors.
Returning to the city, the afternoon is left open to rest or explore at your own pace.

Day 3 | Tromsø
Date : 10/12/2026
Northbound | Arctic Flight and Spa Under the Stars

Highlights
Flight to Tromsø · Northern Lights spa cruise with sauna and hot tub
Â
After two days in Oslo, the journey shifts north.
A short flight takes us deep into the Arctic, where forests give way to snow-covered mountains and icy fjords. The change is immediate. The air is colder, the light softer, and the landscape feels vast and open.
Tromsø sits within this setting, a small city surrounded by wilderness. Colourful wooden houses line the harbour, and fishing boats move quietly through the water. There is time to step outside and take it in before the evening begins.
Tonight, we board a beautifully restored wooden vessel and head out into the fjords for a Northern Lights spa cruise.
Part floating spa and part aurora experience, this is unlike anything else. As we move away from the city lights, the fjord opens up around us and the sky begins to take centre stage.
On board, the Finnish sauna and Turkish hammam offer a striking contrast to the outdoor wood-fired hot tub on deck, where you can sit beneath the open sky. Below deck, the lounge provides a warm space to unwind, with drinks, Nordic snacks, and homemade waffles served as our guide shares insights and photography tips for the aurora.
This is not about chasing the Northern Lights, but about placing ourselves in the right setting and allowing the experience to unfold.

Stillness and Water | Sauna Ritual and Arctic Floating

Highlights
Guided Arctic sauna ritual · Arctic floating experience with Fjord immersion
Â
In the Arctic the sauna has long been a way to warm both body and spirit during the deep winter months. Today we experience this ritual beside the fjord where heat, steam, and cold water form part of a centuries old tradition.
Inside the wooden sauna the warmth builds slowly as water is poured over hot stones. Local hosts guide us through the rhythm of heating and cooling that defines Nordic sauna culture. Those who wish can step outside for a brief plunge into icy water before returning to the comforting heat.
The experience leaves the body refreshed and the mind remarkably calm, a simple practice that reflects the balance of life in the north.
As the day unfolds, we move from heat into stillness. Wearing thermal suits, we head out onto the fjord for an Arctic floating experience. Here, there is nothing to do but lie back and drift. The water holds you, the landscape opens up around you, and the stillness of the Arctic becomes something you feel rather than observe.
As the afternoon settles in, this becomes one of the most memorable settings to watch the sky. With luck, the northern lights may appear above the fjord, adding something unexpected to an already sensory day.

Footsteps in Snow | Reindeer and Sami Stories

Highlights
Guided snowshoe walk · Reindeer sledding · Sami storytelling and dinner
Â
Morning in the Arctic arrives slowly as soft winter light spreads across the snow. After a hearty wilderness breakfast we head into the surrounding landscape for a guided snowshoe walk through the quiet tundra.
Snowshoes allow us to move easily across deep powder while guides share stories of the region’s wildlife and winter traditions. Each step sinks softly into the snow as we make our way through this peaceful environment.
Later we arrive at a traditional Sami reindeer camp where hundreds of reindeer roam across the valley. Local herders welcome us and introduce the animals before guiding us on a short sled ride through the snow.
As evening settles we gather inside a warm lavvu tent where a fire burns at the centre. Over a traditional meal our Sami hosts share stories of their culture, their deep connection to the land, and the rhythms of life in the far north.

Winter Light | Markets, Views, and Arctic Sky

Highlights
Christmas market visit · Fjellheisen cable car · Evening Arctic sky experience with curated grazing
Â
This morning begins in the heart of Tromsø’s winter rhythm.
Christmas market wooden stalls line the square as the scent of mulled wine, roasted nuts, and fresh pastries fills the air. With time to wander, you can browse artisan goods, pick up small gifts, or simply move slowly through the festive atmosphere as the city comes to life.
By late afternoon, we shift perspective. We take the Fjellheisen cable car high above Tromsø, rising above the harbour and surrounding islands to a viewpoint that reveals the full scale of the Arctic landscape. Snow-covered peaks stretch into the distance while the city sits quietly below, framed by fjords and winter light.
There is time to take it in properly. Step outside into the cold air, walk through the snow, or settle in with something warm while watching the light begin to change.
As evening approaches, we remain above the city. Rather than returning below, we stay in place as darkness settles in. From this elevated vantage point, far from the streetlights, the sky opens wide above us and we create space for the unexpected.
A curated grazing spread is served, simple, generous, and designed for sharing. Warm drinks are poured as we gather together, watching the sky shift from deep blue into night. If the Northern Lights appear, they arrive quietly above us, moving across the horizon in one of the most dramatic settings imaginable. If they don’t, the experience remains just as memorable. Below, Tromsø begins to glow, its lights reflecting against the surrounding water while we remain suspended above it all.
This is not about chasing the moment. It’s about placing ourselves exactly where it might find us.

Companions of the North | Huskies and Aurora Fires

Highlights
Behind the scenes husky experience · Campfire gathering · Aurora watch
Â
The Arctic wilderness is home to one of the north’s most beloved companions. Today we visit a traditional husky lodge run by experienced mushers who care for hundreds of energetic sled dogs.
Upon arrival we meet the dogs and learn about their role in Arctic travel. Guides explain how sled teams are trained, how they navigate the landscape, and the strong bond between musher and dog. Time is set aside to interact with the animals and enjoy the enthusiastic welcome that huskies are famous for.
As evening settles we gather around an outdoor fire where warm drinks are served and winter gear keeps the cold at bay. Far from the lights of the city, the surrounding valley becomes the perfect place to watch the sky.
If the aurora appears it may ripple above the mountains while the dogs settle quietly nearby. It is a peaceful and memorable evening in the Arctic wilderness.

The experience is both playful and surprisingly peaceful. Dogs trot eagerly ahead while the quiet landscape stretches out in every direction.
After the hike we return to the lodge where a warm Sami style lunch awaits. It is a moment to relax, share stories with our hosts, and say farewell to the dogs before continuing north.

Frozen Frontiers | Snowmobiles and Ice Hotel Dreams

Highlights
Arctic snowmobile safari · Mountain lodge stop · Ice hotel visit and ice bar experience · Dinner in Alta
Â
The Arctic wilderness reveals itself in dramatic fashion today as we set out by snowmobile across the vast snowy terrain surrounding Alta.
After a safety briefing and introduction to the machines, we ride out into the open landscape, following trails that wind between forests and frozen valleys. The sense of space is immediate. Wide, quiet, and untouched.
The journey takes us far beyond the town, across open snowfields where the only sound is the hum of the engines and the crunch of snow beneath us. Along the way we pause at a remote mountain lodge, where warm drinks offer a welcome break from the cold and a chance to take in the stillness of the surroundings.
Guides share stories of Sami heritage and life in one of Europe’s most remote regions before we continue through the Arctic landscape.
As evening approaches, we step into a different kind of world. A tour of the remarkable Sorrisniva Ice Hotel, sculpted entirely from snow and ice. Inside, glowing installations and carved details transform each space into something both artistic and otherworldly.
We take time to explore before settling into the ice bar, where drinks are served in frozen glasses, a simple but unforgettable moment in this unique setting.
